A Very Merry Christmas

Yay! I finally have a chance to post a blog about our Christmas! We all had a wonderful time and now I just have to figure out where to put everything! On the 23rd the local fire department had it's annual Santa on a fire truck visit! The truck came with it's siren blaring through our neighborhood around 7pm and we rushed outside with Zoe and Akela (too cold for Sonya, who was asleep anyway) to catch all the candy that Santa would throw out to the kids in the street! What fun!

Zoe unfortunately found out on this same day that Santa only exists in your heart. My baby is growing up too fast! Those older kids on the school bus bummed her out a good bit on it, but she put on a big smile when I told her that he is still real in your heart and that it wouldn't change a thing about receiving presents and full stockings.

Akela has a nice big 'ole bruised heine after running to fast to see Santa on the fire truck and slipping on the enormous sheet of ice, that is our parking lot. She wanted me to kiss her boo boo!

What fire siren? I don't hear a thing! I'm too busy snoozing on the carpet! I didn't even budge when mommy started to obsessive compulsively vacuum all of the pine needles up!

In our family we have a tradition of going to our favorite Italian restaurant for dinner on Christmas Eve. They close early at Luberto's so we have to get there at 4pm to be sure to grab a table large enough for our group. The food was awesome as always. Here is my sister Meg and her husband Shay.

Here is my Mom with Zoe, Akela and Sonya who had a bit of a fever that night and chose to nap away in her infant car seat the whole time minus this photo! We are missing my Dad this year as it is our first Christmas without him. I'm sure he was smiling down on us though.

Here I am with my hubby Ian. Can you see how tired this poor guy is?! He just got done working eight, eight hour overtime shifts this week! That's 100 hours in one week! Yep, he's nuts! In this economy though, I'm glad he has a job!

The girls felt it was necessary to decorate our cat Lucy and so they hunted him down and taped a red bow to his furry head. He wasn't too merry about it, but he had fair warning when he heard the crazed laughter and small stomping feet coming his way. There is always a safe haven under our bed! Poor cat!

Mommy! Get this thing off of me! I can't see!

I'm still not happy about this!

Oh, fine! Here's your stinkin' Christmas Eve photo! Can I get into the presents now?!

Not a creature was stirring not even a mouse..... Oh wait! That's right, Sonya wanted to party all night! In fact she was up until 2:30am!!!!!! What a stinker! I like your earrings Mommy, let me pull on them!

I'm not tired! Let me see those shiny packages under the tree!

The awaiting pile of fun! Destroyed in minutes only a few hours after this photo!

That's right Mommy, just let me check it all out before my big sisters! Next year I'll understand the whole Santa thing. Give me a break..... It's my first Christmas! The 2am photos!

This one says To: Zoe From: Santa. She won't mind if I gnaw on the corner of this one. Just a little nibble is all!

6am and the first gift has been unwrapped! Zoe is completely all about Pokemon! I thought this was a boy thing, but her boyfriend at school says that girls can play with Pokemon too! Hmmmm... Boyfriend?!!!!

Akela just adores anything Ariel! So this was a favorite, Ariel's Beginning ~ the prequel to The Little Mermaid. She even goes to sleep listening to the soundtrack of the movie!

Books were definitely the best gifts for Sonya this year! She already has so much that has been passed onto her from her two older sisters! I was almost completely stumped on what to get for her this year!

Sonya rolled into this bow and it perfectly attached itself! Soooo cute! We left it on for awhile!

This was the first gift we helped Sonya open. Such a cute book!

Zoe is teaching Akela how to use her I Spy books. Very cool books, I might add!

Yes I did find one! I think this may be more for me.... hehehe! My biggest New Year's resolution is to drop the rest of this lingering weight! I've got a ways to go, but I really want to be back in my skinny clothes again! Anyway we have tried it out and it is so cool! The girls really enjoy the hula hooping! Mommy has the high score on the hula hooping though because in her childhood years that was her favorite thing to do! I can't wait to unlock some of the other fun activities on it and hopefully burn some calories doing so!

Ohhhh..... uhhhhh....... This is the toy she didn't get... The one her sister Akela did get... The one she asked Santa for in a letter after Mommy had finished all the shopping.... The one she saw in Mommy and Daddy's bedroom after doing a little snooping.... The one she figured she would get from another relative after not getting it under her tree at home.... Well, she didn't get it at all. She was very disappointed to say the least. I had to have a long talk with her about being happy and thankful for what she did get, reminding her the true meaning of Christmas and how some children don't receive anything on Christmas sometimes not even food or water. She brightened up after an agreement with her sister that if Zoe shared her Littlest Pet Shop stuff with Akela, Akela would in turn, share with Zoe hers. Problem solved.

Akela has a huge obsession with the color blue! She has a blue room with blue sheets and blankets (which she carries with her everywhere and they are named color blues), walls and blue flowered curtains, blue teddy bears, blue purses, blue clothes, blue coat, blue everything!!!!! When given a color choice, she always picks blue! Well, we had one blue hair bow for her which she proudly wore everyday even if it didn't match with her few non-blue outfits. The bow busted after many uses and had to be trashed. Santa thought it would be a good idea to replenish the blue bow supply since Akela nearly had a heart attack seeing her old bow go into the garbage can! Notice the blue gem studded headband on her crown? Such a sassy thing, she is!

Sonya preferred gift bows and ribbons, colored paper tissues, gift bags and wrapping paper!

It's only 7:30am Mommy! My sisters woke me up too early for Christmas! Don't they understand that I was awake until 2:30am?! Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to take a nap in my excersaucer!

My Gammy (Mommy's Mom) bought me a Clipo Activity Table with Clipo blocks! Sooo fun!!!

At my Nanny's (Daddy's Mom) I got some very yummy Gerber Yogurt Melts in my stocking!

And of course she bought me an Elmo Live too! Mommy thinks he's a bit too much with all the stuff that he can say, but I just love him! He talks to me and I love his dance moves!

Mommy's grandmother, my Great Mommom got me this way cool doorway jumper and I just jumped all of my energy right out! I'm pooped! This Christmas stuff is very tiring!

Well, that was long! Now I'm all caught up with everyone else I guess! So until New Years.... Thanks for checking in everybody and Merry Christmas to you all!

Campomelic Dysplasia ~ To Kristin

Hi Kristin! I think Mike sent you my way! I have little info on CD as there is very little info to be had out there on it! I can tell you that there are survivors and there is a great support group called Campomelic Families on Yahoo. The parents on this group are so caring and very knowledgable. Campomelic Dysplasia varies greatly from one individual to another so what one child has another might not! Sonya has many of the characteristics of CD but does not have any respiritory issues which is the reason why so many CD babies do not survive. There is always hope! Although she has not been officially diagnosed (DNA tests take forever!)and her doctors had a few doubts over it, they are still very sure that this is what she will be diagnosed with. You can check out some of my older posts for some info. Under October you will find a post titled "What is Campomelic Dysplasia?" and in November you will find my post "Campomelic Dysplasia No, Osteogenesis Imperfecta Maybe" which tells of her doctors doubts. I hope this is helpful! I sent Mike my email address to be passed on to you, feel free to email me anytime and ask questions no matter how crazy, scary or silly you may think they are. I know how it feels to be in that situation, it's very scary to have no answers! I'm not sure of your sisters location but I would highly recommend finding a dwarfism specialist. We currently see Dr. Ain, who is a little person himself, at John Hopkins in Baltimore Maryland. Luckily this is only a three hour drive for us! You may have already checked the LPA website, but just in case it's www.lpaonline.org They also have very valuable information on many of the different types of dwarfism. I look forward to chatting with you via email if possible and I hope I can be of good help!

Take Care ~ Melissa

Sonya Backs It On Up!

Here is Sonya's latest trick! She has learned to scoot backwards and she loves this new found activity! Sorry for the grainy image, I was using my phone to video it and please excuse Akela's head bopping by. She also has finally started to put pressure on her feet and legs! She just started this week to push up into a bouncing stand in my lap! Yay! I remember my older kids doing this at about 4 months of age. I was worried about Sonya's muscle tone in her legs since she is 11 months old now, but her doctors and all of POLP said she would do things in her own time and they were right! My little girl is coming right along! Enjoy the video!

The Tree Is Lit!

Well, we finally got our tree today! We usually go out to a tree farm every year and cut down our own, but this year we had a change of plans. We all decided to pick up a pre-cut blue spruce at one of the local farm stands. After seeing only three blue spruces, two that were too fat and one skinny skinny one, at the first place we went to we felt a bit discouraged! Luckily though, we found the perfect tree just a few more minutes down the road at the next road stand. At just the right height, fullness, color and fragrance we were sold, or rather it was to us! Ian had it tied up on top of the mini van in no time and completely set up straight in it's stand and strung with perfectly aligned colored lights back at the house minutes later! He's really getting good at this! The girls all had a blast hanging all the ornaments and I do have to say, it's an oddly decorated tree! So, sorry for the 34 photos, but just one would not explain it! Enjoy! Sonya's first Christmas!
She couldn't stop staring at the tree and all the pretty lights!

And here are the nice photo's I tried to take of the girls in front of the completely decorated tree.

I think they were all too tired, well except for Zoe.

Tears and half shut eyes.

The lights are on, I just didn't have my camera on the right setting.

Akela hanging one of her favorite ornaments.

Zoe hanging one of her favorite ornaments.

Sonya trying to eat all of the ornaments!

Sonya attack!

Oh, boy! This is going to be an interesting Christmas!

My first ornament circa 1980!

Ian's first ornament circa 1979!

Zoe's first ornament 2001!

Akela's first ornament 2005!

Sonya's first ornament 2008!

Ok, here's where it gets weird. This is a wooden purple lilly flower.

Sock monkey!

Blue sequined fish.

Strange pinecone creature, created by my grandmother circa 1985.

Hula dancing beach Santa.

Zoe's favorite! That's right, she loves skunks! This is another handmade one from the 80's by my grandmother, pompoms and pipecleaners.

Everybody should have a lobster on their tree! This is Akela's favorite and she calls it "wasper".

I think this embroidered bird was on my parents tree back in the early 70's.

Ok, maybe I do shop in that Christmas store on the boardwalk when we are at the beach in July. Mermaid ornament.

Anyone who has a 4, 5, or 6 year old girl knows the Lttlest Pet Shop stuff is the best!

Another wacky and tacky 70's bird from Mom and Dads tree.

For those of you who know about my fiestaware addiction, you can now see the full extent of it!

My husband is German so that explains the pickle, as for the frog?

A seahorse?

The tree would not be complete without SNOOPY! My very first Christmas gift was a stuffed Snoopy, I still have him and I have been completely in love with him ever since! Here are 2 of the 20 Snoopy ornaments on our tree this year ~ yeah, there's more in storage!

Gotta love the 80's and Pack-Man! Again made by my grandmother, she's pretty crafty!

Woodstock in a stocking, reindeer Snoopy and the Foxy Ladies life saver ring, designed after my grandfathers boat named "Foxy Ladies".

Just A Typical Day!

Well, it was just a typical day in the Swartley household today! There isn't too much to report on. Sonya is really enjoying sweet potatoes and has the orange mustache to prove it.She is really getting the hang of her sippy cups and loves apple juice even though we cut it in half with water.
She tore up some of the magazines and ad flyers that mommy was planning on reading!

Zoe got a 100% on her pre-math test today! I'm so proud of her!

She made a crazy clown in art class yesterday and brought it home for me today! Looks like she is taking after me with her wonderful artistic abilities!

And Akela, well she fell asleep in the mini van on the way home (a four minute drive) from the grocery store! Car rides just seem to knock her out!

Getting Ready!

Well, we have been super busy getting ready for the holidays! We went to the Lehigh Valley Mall this past weekend, which I have never been to before even though it is the same distance away as the other mall that I do go to. It was neat checking out this new (to me) mall, there was a few stores that the other mall did not have. The Santa there was perfect! I had the girls all dressed up in their matching outfits for the big visit with the big jolly guy! They are so excited now and can't wait for the big day! On the top of Zoe's wish list this year is scrapbooking (just like her mommy's) and jewlery making stuff. Akela is all about Littlest Pet Shop and Sonya just knows she does not want to sit on Santa's lap and would prefer to be in her mommy's arms where she belongs! She cried a good bit and seemed pretty scared of the big, jolly, old Santa at the mall. She did manage to stop just long enough for us to snap a photo though! After some comforting in mommy's arms and a little more shopping we came across the Piercing Pagoda and decided to finally get Sonya's ears pierced! She sure did end up having a rough day, but she had a blissful sleep that night and I sure did enjoy that! Well, now it's time to see if I can get the lights untangled, lit and hung! Have a great week everyone!
